Accelerated MSIS Program (BS in Information Science)

Complete your Bachelor of Science in Information Science and Master of Science in Information Science in an abbreviated period.

The MSIS accelerated master's program (AMP) allows exceptional BS in Information Science students who wish to attend graduate school to earn their MS in Information Science in as few as 18 months. AMP students may take up to 12 units of graduate coursework as undergraduates at the undergraduate tuition rate while retaining eligibility for undergraduate scholarships.

Students choose between one of two subplans: Human-Centered Computing and Machine-Learning, enabling them to develop the skills they need to excel in tomorrow's interdisciplinary information economy.


Admissions Requirements

We recommend that interested Information Science students speak to their undergraduate academic advisor about their interest in the program early in their undergraduate career to begin planning for the accelerated master's program.

Before students apply to the accelerated master’s program, they must have a 3.3 GPA or higher and have earned at least 75 units. Once you are accepted to the program and have earned at least 90 units you may begin enrolling in graduate level courses.

Plan of Study

Accelerated BSIS/MSIS students are required to take ISTA 350 as part of their “Intensive Computing” requirement for their undergraduate degree. Additionally, they are also required to take two of the following courses: ISTA 311, ISTA 331, MATH 129, MATH 313 towards their “Intensive Computing” requirement.

Progress to the PhD Program

MSIS graduates with strong research interests are encouraged to apply to the College of Information Science’s outstanding PhD in Information. Admission requirements are the same as the other candidates, but MSIS graduates may be able to utilize previously earned units towards PhD degree requirements.
